Wolverines!

red dawn film pics Patrick Swayze The Rough Woodsman reports that MGM is considering a remake of Red Dawn. For those of you too young to remember, Red Dawn was a totally unrealistic, but fabulous artifact of the Cold War.

The premise of Red Dawn was simple: The Soviets cross the Bering Sea into North America, while Cubans and Nicaraguans invade from the south. I’ve heard that it was based on a DoD scenario, but who knows. The action centers on a small Colorado town which is seized by Soviet and Cuban paratroopers early in the war. Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Grey, Lea Thompson and some less cool students escape into the mountains and start a partisan movement against the invaders.

For my wife and I, Red Dawn will always have a happy, romantic glow. It was the graduation movie at the right-wing summer camp where we fell in love as teenagers (and our first date movie.) Yeah, I know that’s a little weird.

My only concern about a potential remake matches that of John J. Miller at National Review: “Um, how can you improve upon cinematic perfection?”
