This is a perennial pro-abortion argument – that the fetus is just a parasite, an appendage within the woman. It’s simply a part of her body with no independent standing, on par with any other organ.
Let’s consider that. By the time of the average abortion:
Does an appendix have any of these? Certainly, the baby is dependent on the mother for life. But in what moral universe does dependency give the one dependened upon the right to kill? Someone who has created a human life is the custodian of that life. Assuming responsibility for another human being makes you liable to it, not the arbiter of its life or death. By the standards of medical science, an unborn baby is an entity distinct from the mother. All the shouted slogans in the world can’t obscure that fact.
