People are inherently religious. If they refuse to worship the true God, they’ll latch on to a substitute instead. PETA types go for the four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Meanwhile, agnostics and atheists think themselves sophisticated in their unbelief, but they’re always the first to fall for a cult of personality. Throughout the world, the secular Left has never met a demagogue it didn’t like — Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Che, Pol Pot, Castro, Chavez, Arafat, and so many others. Obamania is just the latest in the trend (though thankfully it’s gauzier and less bloody-minded.)
