When the hard Left and the anti-war movement “support” our troops, they’re basically like abusive spouses. Like a violent husband, they somehow believe that platitudinous expressions of love for our soldiers will somehow outweigh their violently hateful actions toward them. The central organizations of the anti-war movement, Code Pink and ANSWER, are a haven for America-hating anti-Semites who “support the troops when they shoot their officers.” Leftists such as Prof. Nicholas DeGenova long for a “million Mogadishus.” Michael Moore, a Lefty adored by mainstream liberals, termed the insurgents “Minutemen” and happily predicted their victory over the U.S. military.

Thankfully, mainstream liberals aren’t as abusive toward our troops as their allies on the hard Left. Instead, Liberals are more like Peg Bundy on Married With Children.

Peggy loved her husband Al, but she could never quite conceal her contempt for him. She mocked his poverty, stupidity, and lack of education to anyone who would listen. Whenever Al had trouble Peg did nothing to help — instead she stood off to the side and made carping remarks. Any plans he made to get ahead were met with ridicule, and anything he achieved was immediately belittled. Peg would say sweet words to Al’s face and then work against him the moment his back was turned.

Democratic support for our troops is about the same. I’m sure some Libs honestly do care about our troops, but they can never quite conceal their contempt for them. And while Liberals make nice noises about “supporting the troops,” they reflexively undermine their efforts. The Democratic powerhouse Moveon.Org is a great example, taking out full page ads denouncing Gen. Petraeus as “General Betray-Us.”

Like Peg Bundy, Liberals can’t help but denigrate our troops. In their world, our soldiers seem to come in only two varieties: violent psychopaths and hapless loser-victims. (more…)

Instead, 3rd ID has made its military retention goal for all of 2008 in just 6 months.  In fact, the 1st of the 15th battalion is only four re-enlistments away from 200% of its retention goals. 

In a volunteer military, soldiers can vote with their feet.  These numbers say a lot.
