crude attempts at journalism

Have you been hearing the same thing I keep hearing about how Saudi Arabia dissed President Bush, saying they weren’t going to increase production until consumers demanded it?
Yeah, well, my gas prices certainly reflect those expectations. Argh. Seems there’s something missing in the reportage, though:

this is just–grotesque. and disgusting.

I’m finding it hard to comment on this excerpt from a New York Times article (but go back to Mark Steyn’s Corner post for context and further commentary):

How shall I say this–are they trying to make me want McCain?
Because that’s almost enough, right there, even if I were […]

The Mainstream Media and Quantum Mechanics

When scientists began to study systems at the atomic level, they realized that the otherwise universal laws of Newtonian physics didn’t apply to atoms. In order to understand the behavior of subatomic particles, they had to invent a new approach — quantum mechanics — which was unique to this tiny, enclosed world.

Media Bias and the Totalitarian Left

Visions of Media Bias: Right and Left

(NOTE: This post has been edited due to fairness concerns raised by liberal readers.)
Bizarrely, it is an article of faith in the American Left that the media is biased against them. One must assume that the Democratic Netroots don’t watch the Academy Awards […]

Barack Obama’s Media Tailwind

The long Democratic primary helped McCain in a way that isn’t often discussed — with the Democratic party divided, so were their media allies. Hillary supporters in the media trained their fire on Obama, and Obama’s on Hillary. If the world outside of Camp Hillary moves quickly to a general election mindset, then […]

Lead Story: “Christian Street” Erupts Over Verhoeven Jesus Book

A fifth day of rioting and bombings rocked North America and Europe as the Christian community reacted to news of a controversial biography of Jesus Christ. While public officials have appealed for calm, Christian rage seemed only to escalate yesterday as Pope Benedict issued a papal bull calling for the beheading of the book’s author, […]

Big Media: Is it really all about the money?

The current spate of turkeys Hollywood is turning out should finally put an end to the old argument — “the media is just there to make money.”

1. If it was about the money, at least one of the Big Three networks would be trying to appeal to the plurality of conservatives in this country.
2. If it was just about the money, Hollywood would make more G- and PG-rated films and less R-rated ones.

3. If it was just about the money, the massive success and profitability of Passion of the Christ would have spawned a host of religion-themed movies.

4. But most of all, if it was just about the money, this flood of anti-war stinkbombs would have been killed two years ago.
