Glittery Ephemera: Red Meat

Milkman Dan has taught me a lot about conflict resolution over the years, and Bug-Eyed Earl was a formative influence on my sense of style. Here are a couple of my fave Red Meat cartoons from recent weeks:

The Whedonverse expands! Dollhouse premiers this autumn.

After FOX completely bungled Firefly, Joss Whedon swore off the small screen in favor of movies. But like the Godfather, just when Joss thought he was out, they pulled him back in. According to Joss, the show is about “Dollhouse is a suspense drama about a girl who can have any personality except […]

Solids Goal Saturday

All right, folks, time for some fun. This time, let me just begin by saying…. I have no idea how to complete the operation referred to here. Yeah. I’m an English teacher. I could probably (re)learn math, but. . . . I’d rather watch the video.

(YouTube I Will Derive!)
Now, if you’re […]

Not-so-glittery Ephemera: The British Lawnmower Museum!

I had thought the trebuchet guy was the best proof of a British surfeit of leisure. That was before I discovered the British Lawnmower Museum. I love the earnestness with which someone put this place together. If for no other reason, stop by and check out the theme music.

And if […]

Separated at Birth?

I always love these. Many have noticed the uncanny resemblance between James Carville, my favorite Democrat, and LOTR’s Gollum.

Talking with my buddy Frank today, he pointed out that Carville even more closely resembles Voldemort — both in his looks and his approach to power struggles.

Glittery Ephemera: Bugatti Veyron configurator!

The lines of the Bugatti Veyron are beautiful, but I imagine the experience of driving the beast would be sublime.

To check out the specs on the Veyron, pop over to the Bugatti homepage. Also, here’s the Veyron 16.4 configurator where you can pick out your post-Powerball paint job and interior for your Bugatti.

Today’s Glittery Ephemera: Homemade Trebuchets

As if trainspotting, salted fish and hot dogs for breakfast, and Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee weren’t enough, the Brits have added homemade trebuchets to their list of cultural achievements. I’m too jealous:

But Americans won’t be left behind in the trebuchet arms race. Here’s an All-American flaming-piano-launching trebuchet.

Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester — Big Band Insanity!

This is one of my glitteriest of glittery ephemera. Max Raabe is a German madman who, along with his big band, cover American pop songs in the style of 1920s and 30s German dance music. They also do actual Weimar dance tunes, but the real fun is their renditions of songs such as […]
